We believe every acre of land matters. We believe in that statement to our very core, and that’s where the Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund came from. But who are we? What do we do? Do we only care about bees and butterflies? We’re glad you asked.
Our landscape is changing. In the past decade, hundreds of millions of acres of habitat for bees, butterflies and birds have been lost to development, crop production and changing agricultural practices. Critical habitats are disappearing in the United States and taking with them honey bees and monarch butterflies and impacting other wildlife tremendously. The pollinators are essential to life as we know it – think about it this way: On average, one in every three bites of food we eat is dependent on a pollinator. Our fruit, vegetable and nuts would be no more without them!
That’s where we come in…
By targeting areas where only scraps of habitat remain, our program establishes essential forage for pollinators through our NextGen Habitat Projects where all of these animals can once again survive and thrive. We started as a pilot program in the Dakotas but have grown immensely as the need grows, so we’re expanding this year to six states – North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. But we aren’t stopping there! You’ll find our name and our treehouse across the country throughout the year spreading the good word that pollinators are doing. To start- we’ll be debuting at the American Beekeeping Federation Conference January 10-14 in Galveston, Texas and making a stop at Pheasant Fest in Minneapolis, Minnesota February 17-19. Come see us and learn about all the ways we can use your help.
With the help of generous corporate sponsors and individual donors, we are establishing high quality pollinator habitat to ensure honey bee and monarch butterfly populations thrive. We’re working with landowners, conservationists, scientists and beekeepers to build healthy and sustainable pollinator habitat with maximum benefits. Our solution precisely targets pollinators’ needs by engineering projects that provide appropriate bloom diversity, density and duration to optimize forage potential. For every $100 donated, we help establish one acre of sustainable habitat for these pollinators with our special seed mix that delivers maximum benefits.
We’re a unique conservation solution and we’re so glad you’re here.
Follow along and tune back in here to meet our founders, see our projects, learn about our impacted wildlife and find all the places you can spot us all across the country. To support our mission, honey bees and monarch butterflies, donate now.
“The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund is the bees’ buzz! The effort is integrating the very best performing habitat solutions where they are most needed, by bringing landowners and beekeepers together in a program where everyone benefits. It’s our goal to make every available acre the best it can be. It’s truly amazing just how much difference an acre can make when the habitat is engineered for maximum productivity!”
“This project is a unique conservation effort, targeting acres in regions where conversion to soy and corn is happening very fast. By identifying places where habitat makes the most sense, the bottom line improves for the grower, the beekeeper, the monarch, upland songbirds and game birds, honey bees and native pollinators – it’s a program that can’t lose!”
"The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund is unique in that it has found the way to plant cost-effective pollinator habitat that establishes quickly and provides great pollinator benefits. It's the trifecta of getting great pollinator benefits onto the landscape. If we try to solve the critical problems for pollinators using the same tools and methods we have used for the last decade, we won’t be successful. The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund brings new strategies, methods and partners together to save monarch butterflies, honey bees and other pollinators, not to mention the nation’s food supply and beautiful landscapes."
